2020 SEASON LIKE NONE BEFORE IT
Not only was there expected to be a leap in overall crop volume this year but at the same time the season got underway much earlier with record volumes being loaded early. In March alone 28,000 pallets were loaded onto Charter vessels in Tauranga compared to the 12700 the season before.
During late March and early April daily deliveries to the port where extensive with on a single day 217 containers going to the Tauranga Container Terminal and another 3700 pallets delivered to the Mount Maunganui Charter vessel terminal. End to end that many trucks would form a line eight kilometres long. While the lack of traffic under the level 4 lock down was a factor it couldn’t have been achieved without loadout sites being able to work at that pace and the port based operation able to unload them as quick.
